# What Does NWT Mean on Poshmark? Condition Rules Before You Use It

> When Poshmark users post items as new with tags (NWT), it means that the items have never been worn, and the original tags are still attached. Here's how to set it, capture it, and ensure it is consistent when cross listing.

NWT on Poshmark means new with tags. The item has never been worn or used, and the original retail tags are still attached. The test that matters is the tag itself. If the tag is removed, cut off, or is in the bag and not on the item, it is new with the tags removed, or new without tags (NWOT), and is NOT NWT.

## How NWT works on Poshmark and the other labels

The filter buyers use comes from the condition option in the Posmark listing form and is independent from what you write in the title. When you list an item, select New With Tags (NWT) from the condition options only if the item meets the two-part test: the item is never worn, and the original tag is attached to the item. It is a habit amongst many sellers to include NWT in the listing title, but the title text does not set the condition and filters run on condition options. Set the condition options first, and use the title to include brand, item, size, color, etc.

The neighboring labels each answer a slightly different question:

- NWOT: New Without Tags. It is used on Poshmark for Like New condition. New without tags means never worn but the retail tag is removed.
- BNWT, brand new with tags: the same meaning as NWT, used more often by UK and Depop sellers.
- NWB = New With Box. It’s mostly shoes and accessories here, and the box is the real indicator of condition rather than a hang tag.
- Like new: worn or handled lightly with no visible wear. Honest, but it is not a new claim.

Edge cases are where sellers get caught. An unattached tag is considered NWOT. A tag that you’ve reattached is NWT because the attachment is no longer original. Something worn once to dinner is considered like new. Something that’s been tried on at home for a mirror selfie is considered worn. Disclose that in the listing. As for store marked tags, bar code covering, a slashed price, clearance stickers, and outlet tags are NWT as long as the item hasn’t been worn. Disclose these in the listing and provide a picture to be safe. Some buyers would not want to buy a marked tag because they think it’s a return or outlet item.

Upon cross-listing, the condition needs to be translated to each marketplace’s native condition list. Here are the options that appear in the forms at the moment of writing. Before listing, check each marketplace’s definitions and match them accordingly.

| Marketplace | NWT item | NWOT item |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Poshmark | New With Tags | Like New, NWOT in description |
| eBay | New with tags | New without tags |
| Mercari | New | Like new |
| Depop | Brand new | Like new |
| Facebook Marketplace | New | Used - Like New |
| Etsy | State it in the description | State it in the description |

## What to watch out for with an NWT claim

The strength of an NWT claim relies on photos and the description behind it when questioned by a buyer. On Poshmark, a buyer has the ability to open a case after they receive the item if the item does not match the description, and Poshmark reviews the listing photos and the description to come to a conclusion. Tag photos may help you provide evidence to a buyer, but a listing with no tag photo provides you no evidence to point to.

1. Photograph the attached tag front and back, so brand, size and price are readable.
2. Take a close-up photo of where the garment's tag meets the fabric, showing the original plastic barb/string still affixed.
3. Shoot any store markings, stickers or slashed prices so the disclosure matches the photo.
4. Maintain your full photo set, as well as your pre-ship photos, until after the sale ends.

Typical ways sellers waste time or lose a sale: setting condition to “New With Tags” on an item with a reattached tag; failing to see a small mark or pull on a never- worn item that’s been sitting in storage; leaving the condition set to “New With Tags” in the title after editing the description. Buyers have been known to file claims against sellers for items listed as “New With Tags” that contain a cut tag.

The greater risk is the inconsistency you create across various marketplaces. If you say your jacket is NWT on Poshmark and used on Mercari, a shopper can find both, and rightfully question your integrity. Pick a condition, and map it in your spreadsheet (above). Be consistent, and update all copies when the condition changes.

With pricing, don’t overthink a tag’s inherent value. If a brand, style and size is consistent, find sold listings, and compare prices for tags and for worn conditions. The difference can range from a few dollars to a large discrepancy. There are exceptions for fast fashion, where NWT items can sell for prices close to worn conditions. If a style and size is selling quickly, and the comps are for NWT conditions, then price to sell and let the tag facilitate the transaction.

## Keep NWT consistent across marketplaces with PrimeLister

For a tagged item listed on Poshmark, the next best thing to do is crosslist it to more marketplaces, and do it quickly. PrimeLister does most of that work for you. It:

- Crosslists an item to Poshmark, eBay, Mercari, Depop, Etsy and Facebook Marketplace, so you can easily pick condition once per marketplace.
- Auto-syncs your inventory, and auto-delists an item when it sells.
- Edit multiple listings at the same time to make changes quickly, like correcting conditions or descriptions.
- Find duplicate listings for free to catch any listings where you have entered conflicting info for the same item.
- The Bot for sharing, following, offering and relisting costs $25 per closet per month, or $20 per month when billed yearly.

It has a 7-day free trial and a no credit card requirement.

## Frequently asked questions about NWT

### Can you list an item as NWT without the original tag?

No. You cannot rely on the tags to make the sale. Include the info in the description and take good pics so that buyers can evaluate it for themselves.

### Can you reattach a tag that fell off?

You can also include the loose tag with the item, but do not reattach it, photograph it with the item and say it is like new.

### Does NWT apply to shoes without a box or beauty items?

Hang tags on boxes indicate whether or not shoes are new. Boxes usually contain the description, but shoes without boxes are described as “new without box.” If the seal is broken on any beauty product, the description must indicate whether or not the product has been opened or swatched.
