Can't Delete a Listing on Depop? Why It Happens and How to Fix It

Why a listing won’t delete, the 30 second check to run first, and how to fix each cause including open orders, cached pages, crosslisting sync, and app issues.

6 min read

It's usually the app or your login session is out of date which causes the delete option to go hidden or unresponsive. Update the app, force close and reopen it and see if you can delete it then. If it's still not showing, log in to Depop using a web browser and delete it from there. This usually solves it in under 2 minutes.

What a stuck Depop listing looks like

This article covers one situation- You want a listing removed from your Depop shop and it won’t let you. Usually this happens in 3 ways, and the way it happens provides a clue to the cause.

  • The delete option doesn't exist. You go to the listing, pull up its menu, or go to its edit screen and there is no option to remove it.
  • You tap delete and it does nothing. Sometimes the screen freezes for a second and then bumps you back to that listing.
  • The listing is gone but it’s still on your shop page. You should have gotten a confirmation to delete the listing but the item is still on your shop page, or in search results, and/or a buyer is message you about it.

If your issue is something else, like a listing that you can’t edit or photos that you can’t upload, the causes of your problems may overlap, but the solutions will differ, so treat it as a different case. Also note the device that you are using. A delete that is unsuccessful on your phone but successful on your laptop is a completely different issue from one that is unsuccessful on all devices, and this comparision reduces the majority of the guesswork in this post.

Run this thirty-second check first

Before you start clearing caches or writing to support, rule out the three most common reasons for failed deletions. Each of these will take less than a minute.

  • Is the shop correct? If you are running multiple Depop accounts, or if someone else is running an account on the same device as you, check the username on your profile. You can only delete listings in the shop that you are signed in to, and the delete option will not be shown for other shops.
  • Look at your own profile listing. Go to your shop page and tap the item there rather than opening it from search, a saved link, a message thread, or a notification. Some of those routes show the buyer view of the listing, which has no seller controls.
  • Compare app vs browser. Open the same listing on depop.com in a browser with your account signed in. If delete is available in one and not the other, it’s not your listing and has to do with either the browser, session, or app.

If the browser shows the delete option, go ahead and use it. If the listing is already missing in the browser, then it was probably deleted and your app is showing an old copy. In either case, move on to the causes below.

Why Depop won't let the listing go

These are listed roughly from most to least common, based on what sellers who crosslist actually run into.

  • A glitchy or outdated app or session. Old app versions and stale logins are the main causes of the menu going missing or becoming unresponsive.
  • There's an open or pending order for this item. If it has sold and the order hasn't completed, the listing is locked to that sale, and you shouldn't be attempting to remove it.
  • The listing has been removed by the user. The information you are seeing is a cached copy, and therefore out of date.
  • Crosslisting or sync tools may have already changed or delisted the item. The tool may push the listing back up after you manually remove it.
  • Depop has put your listing under a restriction. Until the restriction is removed, seller controls may not work as expected. Only Depop can tell you why this has been done.

Two of the signals, the open order and the restriction, are not to force the deletion. The others are mechanical and can be fixed.

How to fix each cause

Save the photos, title, description, price, size and brand somewhere that you control before deleting anything. Deletion is permanent, and you’ll need to start from scratch when re-listing. Once you’ve completed the appropriate fix, then you can delete.

  1. App or session glitch: Update the App Store version of Depop, force quit Depop, and reopen it. If that doesn't work, sign out and back in, and use the web version. If that doesn't work, clear the app cache, or uninstall and reinstall the app.
  2. Order: resolve or cancel the order through Depop's normal order process. You can't just delete the listing. The buyer paid for it. Once the order is resolved or canceled or the item is shipped, the listing will reflect the sale.
  3. Cached page: refresh your shop page, and then check it from a private window or on a different browser. If it's not on your shop page, then it was deleted. While your shop may not always be synced with search, you can always trust your shop page.
  4. Sync tool: open your crosslisting tool and then touch Depop. If the tool shows the item is active, you may need to stop the tool or Depop from relisting. If it's sold or delisted on the tool, you can confirm on Depop.
  5. Hidden or restricted: contact Depop support if you get an odd notification on the listing, or the controls are behaving strangely.

Deleting is not always the best option. You can also edit listings. While you can't always trust search, you can always trust your shop page. Some sellers also like to keep sold listings to show proof they sold items. Deleting a sold item removes proof from your history, so keep in mind why you are deleting.

If something sells on Depop, don't just stop selling there. This is especially true if you're selling the same item on multiple sites. End it on the others, or a second buyer will pay for something you no longer have. Do Depop and the others in the same sitting, and double check that each one shows it as ended.

Delist sold items everywhere with PrimeLister

Half of the failed deletions above come from managing the same item in several places by hand. You delete it on Depop, and forget about Mercari, or a tool and a manual edit fight over the same listing. PrimeLister keeps a single, central record of each of your items, so a sale on one doesn't leave it live on the others.

  • Cross-listing items to Poshmark, eBay, Mercari, Depop, Etsy and Facebook Marketplace from a single, centralized inventory, so the item you remove is tracked where it is posted.
  • Automatic inventory sync and auto-delisting mean items sold on Depop, for example, ends listings on your other marketplaces.
  • Bulk actions to clear multiple listings instead of doing it item by item.
  • A free tool to find duplicates to help if a listing that you thought you deleted still appears to be live.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a deleted Depop listing back? You can't. Depleting a listing is considered permanent. That's why saving the photos and text of the listing is helpful. Photos and text can also be used to quickly list an item again instead of having to take new photos.

Can I delete a number of Depop listings at the same time? Depop changes the features of its app and site frequently. Look for bulk actions on the current app and site. If you crosslist, you can use PrimeLister to perform bulk actions.

Will deleting and relisting help my item get seen? There is no proof in the public domain that says it boosts item visibility. If you want to remove an item, or edit a stale listing, then do so.

Why does the item keep coming back after I delete it? A tool is relisting the item, most likely a sync or automation tool. You need to end that tool first to stop it from relisting the item, and then check Depop again.
